The Northeastern Area Association of State Foresters has named Scott Daniels Cooperative Forest Management Forester of the Year. Mr. Daniels received the award in recognition of his dedication and contributions to sustainable forest management, the forestry profession, and his community. Nominees for this award, given annually, compete in a rigorous and highly competitive award review process, with the best and finest professionals being selected as recipients.

As Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Project Manager, Mr. Daniels oversees a two-county area and is responsible for providing forest management assistance to woodland landowners, assisting local communities with urban tree programs, and working in the county fire control program. Daniels assists forested landowners with Forest Stewardship Plans and addresses all land management issues that the properties have. Mr. Daniels has served as the regional coordinator for locating crews and handling the bid process for Maryland’s spring tree planting program and fall aerial spray release program for the past few years. He also assists with teaching a section of the regional roadside tree training program targeted at road crews from both local towns, city and state highway departments to ensure roadside trees in local communities and along all roads are properly trimmed. Throughout his career, Mr. Daniels has promoted forestry through various forestry tours and educational programs that highlight and teach about good forestry practices and has maintained a positive attitude no matter the circumstances, even in these times of reduced staffing.
